Fine Six-Gallon Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jar with Iron-Slip Broken-Stem Floral Decoration, attributed to Thomas Chandler, Kirkseys Crossroads, Edgefield, SC, circa 1850, large-sized, ovoid jar with thin rim and large, applied tab handles, decorated on the front and reverse with a large iron-slip "broken-stem" floral motif, applied over a green alkaline glaze. Excellent form, decoration, and condition. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor years ago. This jar survives in rarely-found, essentially as-made condition with some minor in-the-firing lines to shoulder. H 16".
