Very Rare Anna Pottery Salt-Glazed Stoneware Pig Flask with Elberton, Georgia Advertising, Wallace and Cornwall Kirkpatrick, Anna, Illinois, Dated 1883, molded in the form of a reclining pig with hole in rear, anatomically-correct underside, and incised details to face and hooves, one side incised with the cobalt-highlighted advertising "J.O. Sanders. / Dealer in Wines / Liquors and Cigars. / Elberton G.A. / 1883". Snout to rear end of pig incised with a cobalt-highlighted map extending from St. Louis to the Black Hills of South Dakota, including the following landmarks: St. Louis, Kansas City, Omaha, Hot Springs, Julesburg, Cheyenne, Black Hills, and St. Louis Kansas City and Northern R.Y. Featuring a desirable salt-glazed surface with cobalt-decorated incising, this flask is one of a small number of extant Anna Pottery pigs made for the Southern market. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor years ago. Excellent condition with some dark coloration to surface. L 6".
