Very Fine and Rare Redware Plate with Sgraffito Floral Decoration over a Sea-Green Ground, Southeastern PA origin, circa 1825, with coggled edge, the interior sgraffito-decorated with an elaborate flowering plant design with pinwheel-shaped blossoms, embellished with heavy detail to the petals and leaves. Surface covered in a copper glaze, creating a bright, light green coloration to the slip-coated surface. Excellent decoration and color. Few examples of Pennsylvania sgraffito-decorated redware come to market surviving in such remarkable condition. Provenance: From an eighty-year private collection, purchased in the 1950s or 1960s. Excellent condition with a few minor edge chips and minor glaze wear to middle flower. Diameter 10".
