Rare and Fine Anna Pottery Stoneware Presentation Pig Bottle, Wallace and Cornwall Kirkpatrick, Anna, IL, circa 1880, molded in the form of a reclining pig with applied ears and tail, incised details to face and hooves, and opening at rear. Profusely-incised on one side "St. Louis the future Capital in / Latest and most Reliable R.R. & River Guide / With a little good old Bourbon in a hogs / Respectfully Dedicatedicated (sic) / To / John Martin / 407 N Main St / St Louis Mo". Remainder of pig incised with a map of the Midwestern U.S., including the following landmarks: Chicago the Corn Crib of the World, Cincinnati the ancient Porkopolis, Anna the Jug City, Cairo the, Mound, Tunnel Hill, Carbondale, Jonesboro, Grand Tower, Murphysboro, harrog gage, C & St S. R.R., ic R.R., Centralia, Odin, C. & V. R.R., Vincens, O & M R.R., Alton, Springfield, and Bloomington. An excellent example of an Anna presentation pig with elaborate script and a folksy misspelling of the word "dedicated". Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market, newly-discovered example. Excellent, as-made condition with a small in-the-firing stone ping to haunch, which does not extend through to interior. L 6 3/4".
