Extremely Rare Anna Pottery Rockingham Pig Flask with St. Louis Advertising, Wallace and Cornwall Kirkpatrick, Anna, IL, fourth quarter 19th century, molded in the form of a reclining pig with hole at rear, and incised details to face, and unusual raised, bead-shaped eyes, incised on one side "from / Sanford, Wells & Co. / No. 14 N. Main St. / St. Louis Mo. / with a little fine old Bourbon in a". Remainder of pig incised with a map of the Midwest, including the following landmarks: Chicago the Corn Crib of the World, Anna Pottery, CBiC RR, Effingham, Decatur, Pana, Vandalia, Sandoval, Odin, Centralia, Duquoin, Carbondale, Mounds, Grand Tower, and Cairo, among others. Glaze appears to be covering an inscription on underside, which mentions "America". Surface covered in a highly-unusual streaked reddish-brown glaze over a yellowish ground. Excellent color. One of a small number of Rockingham-glazed Anna Pottery pigs known. Damage to one ear. Typical stacker marks to bottom of feet. L 7 1/4".
