Rare and Fine Anna Pottery "Worlds Fair" Stoneware Pig Bottle, Dated 1893, Anna, IL, molded bottle in the form of a pig with hole at rear, anatomically correct underside, and incised face and hooves, the animal's side incised over an Albany slip glaze with the whimsical inscription "Fres Pork. / From the Worlds Fair. / with a little good old Rye / in a Pigs --- / 1893." (Note the misspelling of the word "Fresh".) World's Fair pig bottles are significantly rarer than Anna Pottery's "Railroad and River Guide" examples, because they were made only one year for a single event, the 1893 World's Fair in Chicago, IL. A fine example with deep, clear incising and excellent condition. Provenance: A fresh-to-the market bottle consigned from California. The consignor purchased it over twenty years ago and recently discovered its maker and significance. Tail chip and a minor in-the-firing spot of glaze loss near base on reverse. Length 6 3/4".
