Rare Early Stoneware Pitcher with Incised Grape and Floral Decoration, Connecticut origin, possibly Peter Cross, early 19th century, approximately two-gallon ovoid pitcher with tooled collar and applied handle, decorated with an incised and cobalt-highlighted plant featuring a central blossom with leaves, flanked by hanging clusters of grapes. Collar with brushed drape-like design. Spout and rim chips. Horizontal crack and chip in base of handle. Some small line in surface, which occurred in the firing. 1 3/4" hairline on underside, extending 2" up base of pitcher. 1" in-the-firing chip to left of handle. H 13 1/2".
