Rare Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jar, Incised "L m," attributed to Dave the Slave, Lewis Miles Factory, Horse Creek Valley, Edgefield, SC, circa 1850, highly ovoid jar with rounded rim and large tab handles. Surface covered in a streaky greenish alkaline glaze. Incised "L m" along with two slash marks on shoulder on one side. Shoulder on reverse with three incised dots. Numerous small base chips. Thin 1" flake to shoulder on front and a 1" flake under one handle, both of which likely occurred in the firing. H 12 3/4".
