Rare Open-Handled Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jug, stamped "CHANDLER MAKER," Edgefield, SC origin, circa 1850, approximately four-gallon ovoid stoneware jug with tooled spout and open strap handles, decorated front and back with trails of looping iron slip over a grayish-green alkaline glaze. Impressed "CHANDLER MAKER" below spout. Outstanding form in unusually fine condition. Found in Myrtle Beach, SC. Near mint condition; horizontal hairline in one handle. Minor spout wear. Minor 5/8" line on top of spout, which likely occurred in the firing. H 17 1/4".
