Exceptional Early Stoneware Jug with Vibrant Cobalt Watch Spring Decoration, attributed to Capt. James, Morgan, Cheesequake, NJ, fourth quarter 18th century, approximately two-gallon ovoid jug with wide, heavily-tooled spout and ribbed handle, decorated with a vibrant slip-trailed cobalt watch spring design applied over light gray clay. Additional watch spring designs extending from the handle on the reverse. Bold decoration with outstanding color. A fine example of early New Jersey stoneware. 6" hairlines on front and side. Handle chip. H 15 1/4".
