Rare Redware Plate with the words "Apple Pie" in Cream-Colored Slip, attributed to Smith, Norwalk, CT., early to mid 19th century, redware plate with coggled edge and the inscription "Apple Pie" in script, along with a squiggly flourish to the right. Plates of this style, with slogans, proper names, and food names, applied in slip, are typically attributed to the Smith Pottery of Norwalk, Connecticut. An excellent example of slip-decorated redware, with a highly desirable and very American inscription. A few spots of glaze loss. A few small rim chips. Diameter 10".
