Phenomenal Redware Vase with Vibrant Green Glaze, Stamped "JOHN BELL," Waynesboro, PA, circa 1860, tall, narrow vase with dramatically flared collar, covered in a black glaze with overlying bright green copper glaze. Variations in the shades of the green glaze, from a creamy color to emerald hues, add to the beauty of this piece. Orange-colored interior with clear lead overglaze. Impressed "JOHN BELL" on underside. Exceptional form with outstanding color. Possibly an attempt at mimicking art pottery produced by more refined potteries in Europe and America. Very minor wear and small repaired chip at rim. Height 8 7/8".
