Rare, Early NJ Stoneware Jar with Impressed Sun Face Design, attributed to Xerxes Price, South Amboy, circa 1820, ovoid form with tall, heavily incised collar and rounded handles. Jar impressed on both sides with a large face surrounded by a sunburst and enclosed within a circle. Face designs and handle terminals are highlighted in cobalt. Attractive early form with very folky design, originating from an important place and time in American stoneware production. Very nice condition with heavy base chips and a few small rim chips. Height 11 3/4".
